View Full Version : Quick question on Potentiometers
I am in need of pots. 500k of them. Is there any difference between the mini and the normal (quarter?) size?
Thanks a bunch

I'm sure this will open up a good debate but there really isn't any difference other than size. If they both are good quality and the value you want then the choice is yours. CTS and Alpha both make mini and regular sized versions of thier pots.
Hi,
I've had good and bad luck with both. Quality is more important.
If you're importing them yourself, PM me... I may be in the market for a couple hundred soon :D
Cheers!

Gregg...behave, OK. Sheesh...LOL
Kous...he is just having fun. I'm sure you really don't need 500,000 pots.

Thanks for the reply. I'll have a go at the minis.
Haha no, I don't need 500,000 pots. Just a small joke

The size of the wiper can be inferred from the size of the overall pot, larger diameter pots having bigger resistive-strip surfaces, and consequently bigger wipers.
Hypothetically, there is less risk, over time, of large wipers encountering the momentary discontinuities in contact with the strip that get heard as pot-scratchiness. Obviously, it depends on build quality too, but all things (like build quality) being equal, larger pots have a measure of "audio insurance" to them.
