That is good. I've seen some better fakes than the one they are using though. A couple that I've seen in the last couple of months were real good fakes, proper headstocks, proper angle on the logo etc. Really not bad guitars at all, it's just too bad they have chosen to fake label them.

Number five in the tutorial is sort of silly really.

Isn't it something Gibson should adopt?

"CNC router used for serial number & Made in U.S.A. making the imprint much cheaper"

LOL, why the heck not. Seems like the smart way to do it.
For the record, I think those making and knowingly selling fake badged Gibsons or even Gibsuns should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Gibson will continue to make excellent guitars of course. Copies are one thing, but what we're talking about is complete misrepresentation.

I guess stamping if the final "hand crafted" step, but you're right the CNC makes sense

Very good explanation, although a tad ironic when, in talking about how the serial numbers differ, they fake-spell "deaper."

The instance of shoddy binding would have alerted me - but the other clues I probably would have missed. I don't own any real LPs, however. Usually the best clue is the low-ball price these babies are tend to boast.

i've seen a few copies that had me and a gibson expert kinda baffle for a while, we REALY need to check every inches of the LP to see it was a fake, even the finish was freaking good.

I hate fakes!!!.....but the logo and trapeze inlays on those photos hardly support the giant's reputation.

back to topic,

Don't let the prices fool you either, I've seen fakes for $2K

I wish our government would have some balls. In France, Louis Vitton's parent company successfully sued Ebay for allowing obvious counterfeit products to be sold on their site.

the fakes that worry me now are Fender, Epiphone, etc. I think most guys assume a $300 Gibson is wrong.

On the mylespaul forum, there's a lot of guys that have been suckered with Epi fakes.

i have'nt seen any good Fender fake so far, the headstock are always totaly the wrong shape. but the LP are getting better and better with reproduction of all the case goodies. even the certificate of autenticity are damn well made.
