Hey; I'm just wondering if anybody's got any experience with the new S5470. I really think they're just the tops, lookwise, but I haven't gotten a chance to spend any time with one, and if I'm dropping $1500+ on a guitar, I wanna go in with my eyes open.
Any issues with these?

Skinny Ibanez neck. Ibanez really can make a neck but the feel of them isn't quite for me...maybe I'd like them if I could play that fast busy stuff. Finicky bridge. Many people are having trouble with them but on the flip side there are people saying that they are having no trouble at all-are they saying that because they just spent $1500 and don't want to be chuckled at or are they really having no problems? For you to decipher I suppose.
Anyway, if you like the typical Ibanez neck then you know what you are getting. I love Ibanez basses, their 'copies' of strats, les pauls, Vs, Destroyers and 335s from the 1970s and I was quite impressed with the Artcore guitars so I grabbed one of those but I don't know what it is...I am not a fan of their 6 string electrics. They feel like a tool more than an instrument. The neck is incredible in its geometry but I do not find it comfortable at all. I also find that the thin neck contributes to thin tone and that the pickups are awfully clean-is that why most of the players of the new Ibanez guitars play through processors? It makes sense-go in with the cleaner signal to be processsed.
As for looks, the headstock is not for me. I think it is ugly. I also hate the lower horn being 'sharp'.
So...for all of my dislikes, when I pick one up I still understand why some people like them all the while seeing clearly why I don't.

I'm not really sure about that but I think is what Al3d have! But mayby it's not the 24 frets version, but really sure about the guitar model! Maybe he can light you up! They look really nice by the way!
it's the same i had, but mine had extic wood. I just sold it actually. It's a very well made instrument, but it was'nt for me. to wide of a neck, and to tin. the body is very thin as well, so hard to get a good deep sound. the trem is wonderfull doh.
I guess i'm just to much of a Strat guy in the end..:)

Yeah, those Hot Rails, Bill Lawrence, etc. type pickups in the bridge of a strat style can really cook. I have a bunch of super strat rigs that are pretty heavy on the metal side!

My thoughts exactly!!
I had an ad up for a USA Fender Strat that I had for sale. Nice guitar but just a dime-a-dozen strat to tell the truth. It was a 60th Anniversary '70s Strat exactly like the one I have pictured on the white tile floor only the one for sale had a rosewood board. A young guy contacted me and asked if I wanted to trade for a 1976 Gibson Marauder. I didn't even know what it was so I got him to send pictures and started doing research. I agreed to the trade and we met and traded even. I had purchased the Fender with hard case for $600 about 6 months prior and traded it in a gig bag even for the Gibson and a TKL hard case.
I think it is a high level of cool with its solid maple Les Paul style body and neck, Bill Lawrence designed pickups

and wild striped rosewood fingerboard

It's a bad machine. Everyone who plays it really likes it.

In my opinion the Wizard neck on Ibanez Prestige models is as good as it gets. I had an RG1570 and absolutely loved the neck. I wasn't as keen on the Edge Pro trem though.
At some point I may grab a white Jem if I find one for the right price.

That's kinda the way people feel who like those wide, flat necks. I don't find them comfortable at all and I find the skinny nature of the profile sucks some tone from guitars but for the wide/flat lovers Ibanez makes the neck to have. Super consistent too...even the inexpensive 321 has a great neck.

I've found the new Wizard necks are actually a little more manageable than the old profile. They've changed what the name 'Wizard' meant a couple of times over the years, and I really like the new one. Plus, the offset dot inlays look amazing, at least to me.

The reason why I'm asking, is I was looking for a versatile guitar that could handle modern and classic rock, metal, jazz, and everything in between, while still not looking out of place at any type of gig I may find myself in.

I'd originally ordered an RG2550 but decided that it didn't really fit my criteria... just a bit too pointy. And then I saw the S series. And I fell in love with the new one. hahaha.
But nobody has them in stock! Cosmo sold theirs, I went down to LA Music and the Guitar Shop in Port Credit today... none. Agh. I guess I'm gonna have to go in totally blindfolded.
Maybe I'll find one to play at MIAC...
