Of all the major guitar brands (ex. Gibson, Parker, Ibanez, etc.), what areas do they excel in? The best design? The best sound? The best price? Pls give me some insight!

wow,a question like that is like asking how long is a peice of string. There will be tons of different opinions on this one. It really boils down to what feels good for you, what do you like the looks and sound of.

Topic is just too broad and relies on opinion more than fact.

Sorry guy.....not going to touch this one.

This question is impossible to answer...IMHO.

All brands of guitars have relative weaknesses and strengths.

Also, within those brand names, you will be comparing grapes to oranges to lemons (for sure) to apples to watermelons to Ford Escorts....if you get my point.

If you were to choose ONE "style"/design of guitar (e.g., ES 335 semi-hollowbody) you will at least start to get some answers.

Can you narrow things down just a bit...a huge bit:food-smiley-004:

Can you narrow things down just a bit...a huge bit:food-smiley-004:Yup, agreed.

Are you looking for one? If so, why? What do you want to do with it? No use buying a JEM if you want to play jazz. No use buying an L5 if you want to play drop D deathmetal.
And what's your budget?

EDIT: I noticed in your other post you mentioned a black American Std Strat for $200. I would have bought that if I were you...except at that price I'd lay you odds it was a Squier and not am AmStd.

But it still all depends on what you want to do with it, and how much you have to spend.
Those Godins are good value for money though. Not my thing, but you get a lot for your $$.

These fine gentlemen are correct, you need to give alot more info before anyone can even begin to address your question. What style of music do you play, what shape/style do you like the look of, what price range, and that just scuffs off the tip of it.

with your question, i wouldnt even be looking at "major brands."

get a custom, but you have to know exactly what specs you want first ;)

yeah bro thats asking the impossible... pick a sound, look, and style you like then ask again... I'm not sure if at this point you want to go custom build... got to get the feet wet first.
The other thing is $$$... do you have $10 or $10 000 to spend. For ten bucks I'd say Wallmart... no wait... Saan... for $10 000 I'd say PRS Private Stock... LOL

for $10K i'd say a $3K custom and keep the other $7,000 for 2 really nice halfstacks :D

Gibsons are good Epiphones suck.

Fenders are good (if made in the US of A) Squires suck.

Everything else sucks except certain Grestch models that are made in the US of A.

See that was easy.

1) Depends on what you play
2) All have put out lemons, all have put out wonders... even if niche.

Best I can say.

Cheers!

You know...the funny thing is that there are many people who actually think that!!

I don't have too much experience with Epiphones but I like the Dot.

Hey, I like my Squier Affinity Strat. It does depend where they're made though.

Fender, Gibson and Gretsch are good. Danelectros are pretty.

But seriously, at the very least, what style of music do you want to play? Then we could sort of narrow it down. Strats are pretty versatile if you don't know yet but most people have an idea, and they have pretty curves :)

This may be the answer but what is the Ultimate Question?

Srry guys, I guess putting up details slipped my mind. Thanks 4 the replies though. OK... I usually like to play general rock, alternative rock, classic rock and a bit of country. For instance, songs like "Breakout" by Foo Fighters, "Layla" by Eric Clapton and "Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd. As for the shape, I really like some of the Les Paul designs. The colour I'm looking 4 is black or white. The price range I'm looking 4 is about $300-600. I'm fine with playing used. I was also thinking about buying one off Craig's List. What do u guys think?

This may be the answer but what is the Ultimate Question? It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.*

*...well, it makes about as much sense as the rest of this thread...and reminds me less of TGP, which is a good thing^TM.

DarkDove, maybe a Godin, new or used, would address your needs. I recommend an Exit 22 or an LG. The latter you can find in black pretty easily, but I'm not too hopeful about the Exit 22.

But if the LP shape is what you're really jonesing for, maybe a used LP studio can fit the bill... or go with a new Agile from Rondo... six bills ought to get you a really nice 3000 series guitar that's well made, with decent pups.

have you tested out an LP? do you find it comfortable?

dont go off looks so much as how the body of the guitar sits on you.

for those songs, i'd recommend a schecter C-1 Blackjack. 5-way switch to get you the single-coil type tones for clapton and floyd, and a stock JB/59 pickup set to get you rockin with the foo's.

Rockin with the foo's. If that isn't a great band name I don't know what is.

Now that I see the particulars and the price, one guitar jumps right out...G&L Tribute Strat in HSS.....should be about $500 - $600 street price new and better than that used....the local Music Stop (L&M) has a beauty used for $399.....this would cover all the styles mentioned. The only other alternative might be a Tele with a humbucker, but good luck finding one at that price.

I never see G&L's in L&M. I'm left to drool over photos. L&M is mainly Fender and Gibson. I didn't know a G&L could be have for that cheap, dang.
