Went to the music store today just to kill some time. I noticed what I thought at first was an AV52RI. I had just bought one so I picked this up to take a look. I noticed the price tag on it was $2,873. I paid $1,399 for mine. I asked the salesman why so much. He said it was a nocaster from the custom shop.Supposedly an exact copy of a 51 Tele. I honestly couldn't tell much of a difference in it from mine. The neck felt a bit different but that was it. I plugged it in to a Victoria and noodle around on it and it sounded pretty much the same as mine.
What would justify this guitar being over a thousand more than an AV52RI?

Agree completely, I think the custom shop teles are more consistantly good, and you can get some cool features (the new 52 custom shop tele has a 9.5 radius neck and custom shop pickups, but otherwise is totally vintage), but if you're willing to try a few, the AVRI's are often excellent. They also get better with age, so you have a lot to look forward to. Mine is a 1988, and its pretty sweet.

Nice to know that mine will get better with age. I'm loving it now.
