I used my Avatar Vintage 412 w/ greenbacks. The speakers aren't broken in yet (only have about 4 hours on them), and my Les Paul Studio w/ stock pickups. I engage the mod right at the end of the first clip, and its on for the two others. Sorry about the HORRIBLE playing

I'd like to hear a nice OD in front of that and some more eq. Maybe a Sonic Maximizer. As it is, it sounds a little generic, no offense.
Not much noise to it though, which is nice.
hum..what's the modification on that?...sounds pretty much like all the JCM800 i've heard and owned so far?. The mods done by Lanslo basicaly turned the JCM800 into a deep metal distortion, now THAT was loud

I guess I have to make a clip that goes right from maxed gain stock, to max gain with the mod. There is definetly more gain (even without the two more gain stages being used via toggles, which I don't use), and the voicing changes. Maybe my vids don't capture it. The sound gets more saturated. Gets a nice upper mid bite. FYI I don't turn the mod on until about 3 seconds left in the fist clip. And when I do, I turn the gain down to about half, from max.

Nice mod... generic yes but generic to a JCM 800 no.
I've owned two JCM 800's an 81 and an 83.
First whenever you record something to video it usually falls short of a great representation of the tone of any amp however a close listen will provide enough detail.
What I'm hearing is a lower volumn recording with mostly preamp gain and very little power amp gain... is this right. The mod can be heard easily at the end of the first vid... sounds to me like the mod is effecting the amps overal tone... wether on or off. I hear a more plexi like tone from your amp not that it's a stretch from the 800's ( power amp ) circuitry. What I'm not hearing is that signature 800 preamp gain texture. Hence why I say not generic for an 800.I hear a really nice defined sparkle that is far more plexi like and what really intrigues me is that it's coming from the preamp... COOL! I also hear a more defined "HOT" tone like the amp is being driven more with a cleaner preamp in the front end. Intersting mod for sure. You're not stepping on a boost are you?
I would love to hear this thing CRANKED it's begging you to play it wide open bro!
Nice mod good definition, hotter tone, more texture not sure if i like how it has changed the amp overal but thats because I love that signature 800 crunch... maybe it's your settings or preamp tubes but i doubt it... soumds like the mod is doing that for sure. By the way the bias setting sounds perfect. All in all a very cool tone but for me I'd rather keep the JCM 800 signature crunch, add more gain, open up the tone stack a little as the 800's tend to be not that flexible, and have it so I can switch the mod on and off as to retain the origional cct's tone.
I had my 83 modded by Jon Mackentire and he did just that... eventually I sold it though.
At the end of the day the tone of you amp has improoved and is really quite something to behold... enjoy it for what it is as it sounds killer even on the video.

With the caswell mod, you can footswitch between clean, stock 800, and the #39 mod. As well as the loop on and off.
