I just picked-up a used Fender Hot Rod Deluxe 1x12. It currently has its original tubes and Fender speaker. I want to upgrade them both but I know nothing about tubes ...or speakers.

What would be the best tubes and speaker replacement for this amp? What sound-difference will I hear when they are upgraded? I've heard Webers and Celestions are good, but is one better than the other for a 1x12 amp?

I will only be using the clean channel for mostly warm, fat jazzy-tones.

Thanks in advance for the help! :rockon2:

Cool band. That a real organ in the end of that video?

What's wrong with the amp now?

Weber 12A150T, 50 watt, with light dope will fit that bill, IMO

Cheers!

There's really nothing wrong with the amp right now.. it does have a piercing shrill sound sometimes when I'm playing higher notes with a bit of harmonic... I've heard this sound through Fender amps before though, namely the DeVille, so maybe it's a quirk of Fender's? The reason I want to change the tubes etc.t is because it was formerly a rental amp and has never had the tubes changed. I have a feeling it'll make a big difference. Should I have them change the preamp tubes as well? (I'll be bringing it to a trained professional since I can't adjust the bias ....and I would probably blow-it-up)

Glad you like the tunes shoretyus! Our keyboardist uses a nord electro stage for the organ sounds... Cheers!!

These are certainly VERY nice, warm, articulate speakers. I have two 12A150's.

I bought one of them from Geek.

Good luck on getting the tone you are looking for.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I just found this site (http://studentweb.eku.edu/justin_holton/) which has a ridiculous amount of information about the hot rod deluxe.

+1 Jon should be able to recommend a replacement set for the amp.

I am an NOS man my self but for current production I like TAD's, and JJ's. The tube store is a good resource as the other guys have said.

As far as the speaker goes. Tone Tubby Ceramic all the way. It as a certain ability to reproduce lows that are in total balance with the rest of your tone. And they are not that expensive compared to the alnico tone tubby.
