I'm looking for a SS practice amp that would also work for small jams.

It must have:

decent tone,

output of around 30 watts seems reasonable (I'm used to tube amps and haven't looked at SS amps for ages)

a headphones jack

and reverb.

For blues, soft/classic rock....nothing fancy

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Dave

Not exactly a full solid state, but you might want to look for those Peavey Transtube Amps. I've seen them go from $150.00 up. I've seen people gig with it too.

Like here's one in Belleville:

I'm not connected to this seller, I just thought these amps don't get a lot of attention but I continue to see people using them.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that they are full solid state. "Transtube" means that they are trying to emulate the sound of tubes without using any. It seems like any amp with the word "tube" or "valve" in the name, usually means that there are no tubes in them at all. I think the goal of such names is to target that group that has no idea about amps, but heard somewhere that they think "tubes" are a good thing for amps.

Transtube amps are 100% pure solid state.

Valvestate means a tube preamp but with a solid state power amp.

Hmmm... I've always thought those transtube amps had 12ax7s on the them like the Valvetronics and the Marshall AVTs. Guess not.

The Marshall Valvestate preamps are not true tube preamps, they set the tube as a clipping diode not a gain stage.
