I'm thinking about doing a talent show in my home town.Right now its just me and my buddy doing acoustic.Does anyone have any tips for winning one of these?I've searched the internet and cant find any tips on the subject.Grand prize is recording time and well be facing most likely country and rock bands.

Pack the audience with your friends to make sure that you get the loudest applause possible. These shows are rarely about "best" and are more often about "most popular at the moment".

paul said it best.

you are entering a popularity contest... that may or may not show some talent.

I entered one last year for kicks, and my friends talked me into it along with the $5000 grand prize. When it came down to it, I had a lot of random people telling me how much they liked my song.... but they had to vote for their friend/ kid/ sibling. So I didnt win, so I left and went and played the gig I had planned lol.

[the best thing you can do is pander to the audience. the last time i was in a band in one of those things, we lost to an obviously inferior band, but they were playing funk. play something uptempo, and work on your stage moves. dress as nicely as you can manage, too. get a new (good) haircut. shine your shoes. etc.
