Well I play guitar, and know very little of bass amps..
But I dug this out of my basement. I asked my dad...whats this? He told me it's a bass amp that he never used, and got from an old friend about 20 years ago. Anyone know anything about it? Pics below!
Thanks!

It sounds good aside from the obvious need of a tube change

Pretty sure that's a guitar amp. Never seen a bass amp with Tremelo. I Googled Ampeg U 12 out of curiosty. I think it was made in 64.

Wow--and uncle gives one member a Lab Series, and now another member has a Dad that had an old Ampeg amp hidden away for years.
I'm wondering if my Dad or any of my uncles have any musical surprises for me?
(Probably not)
Cool find though.

Cool find indeed, but I would also guess it is a guitar amp.

Hi guys: that's a J-12. The J stands for Jet. A keeper of an amp by the way. Made in the 60's. Yes, it's a guitar amp all the way.
15 watt, single channel 1x12 class A tube amp. Features include volume, tone and tremolo, Jensen speaker.
It's kinda like a Blues Jr power-wise,- you get tremolo but no reverb.

More than a little soap and water, I believe.
To avoid any possibility of fire or short-circuit, take it to a competent tech to check out and install 3-wire power cable. Keep any pulled components in a bag for future reference.
Capacitors leak and short out over time. Throwing $150 (or less) into this amp before you use it is the right idea.

+1
If not used for years, caps could be bad. if they are wacked with 120V/60Hz they might do bad things. Have a tech do some maintenance. Congrats, it looks like a great amp. Low wattage tube guitar amps are all the rage right now. If you dont' want to keep it, you'll probably get a good price for it.
cheers.
