Sorry no pic story for you 7string.org guys..

As you know I have been on the hunt for some time now and today I bagged the big one, damn heavy too!!

Found a Budda approved JSX head and Windsor 4-12 cab on sale yesterday and picked it up. Great guy to deal with..thanks Curt if your out there.

I was only going to get the head but long story short the cab fit in my Honda surprisingly well.
Once I got home and put it all together I was excited and then horrified, it sounded like crap!!

After tuning my guitar (yeah I know) and looking up Budda's settings I tried again and wow is it ever nice. Managed to pull of the tone I was after with his settings on the Ultra channel, Crunch needs some tweaking as its not there for me yet.
Clean is well super clean.. my limited clean songs sounded great and with a bit of boost got nice and bluesy.

The 4-12 is by no means top of the line but its perfect right now, may change out the speakers later but no hurry.

I was very surprised how well it sounded at bedroom levels, can play it with good tone and still hear the strings over the speakers:banana: that will keep everyone happy.

I know this means nothing without pictures but I will figure it out and get them on for you.

Budda pass along some of your wisdom please...your settings were perect for me but need to get that Crunch going a bit better.

ok, what's missing from your crunch channel?

if you want to get some sweeter high gain tones from it, I highly suggest boosting it.

www.bodenhamer-electronics.com - TSovChaos (or something else that strikes your fancy). That's what I use, and i find it indespensable in getting amazing tones from my amp - it does wonders w/ the clean channel too!

try this for your crunch, not sure how it'll work w/o boosting:
treble: 7
mids: 8
bass: 7
gain: 6
channel vol: 3
master vol: (i hope you live in a house..) 4 if/when you can swing it.
resonance: 6
presence: 5

one key thing: DIME THAT FX LOOP :D. this gives you the full 120W and just makes the amp sound warmer, clearer - its a good idea, unless you have stuff you HAVE to run in the loop. in which case.. well.. the master ;) haha.

these amps are great for low-volume playing, whereas a mesa would need an attenuator to help it out there (the power amp plays a huge part in getting that "mesa high gain" tone). i really like being able to be quiet and play along to songs on the comp, or put 'er on 5 and lay down some riffage.

im glad you like your new amp! congrats :)

Thanks, those settings worked on the crunch..all good now. I now have a good base set of settings to start with and get back to when I screw up.

Dime the FX, do you mean with nothing plugged in? And are you talking in or out or both?

Also on the guitar input, is the high gain low gain mean the gain you want to play at or the gain from the guitar. Sorry if thats a lame question but I won't get the manual till Monday.

Thanks
Bev

both fx send and return on 10, with nothing in the loop. to feel that full 120W of power ;). it really didnt seem like a loud amp for its wattage until i did that, now i dont turn them down.

now if you Must have your delay (or whathaveyou) in the loop, then i dont know if you'd be able to pull it off w/ the loop dimed or not - experimetnt?

i had a look on the peavey site as per the manual for the amp ;) mine's used as well.

high gain: the input you use for low-output (think vintage LP) guitars. its 2dB louder then the low gain input or something like that. You'll get a much sharper, articulate tone - keep the presence at 5 or under in general, with this one.

now if you want a fuller, warmer sound (gain knobs go to 10 for a reason ;) lol) - use the low gain input. its a touch quieter, which means you can push the amp a touch harder for regular volume levels. this is also the input meant to be used with high output pickups - actives. I always use the high gain input with my LP, but since i've gotten the DC727 with blackouts, i am using the low gain input for both guitars.

i hope to get some passives into the DC727, not quite getting on with the tone but the guitar's great.

i hope i answered your questions, glad i could help w/ the EQ :). fool around, see what kind of tones you can get from the amp. if you keep the gain and chan. vol real low on the crunch channel and turn up the master, you can get some really nice and smoooth OD tones :D.

Good tips thanks!

I spent some good serious time with it today also did some soundproofing around my apartment. Its all concrete but the bottom of the door was leaking some sound..With your settings I got the master up to 1.5 (knob setting) before my girl thought it was to loud out there..At 1 I have the sound I want so all good!!

Did dime the FX and did feel the power increase and the tone change..leaving it there as well. Not much of an FX user so no problem.

The fellow I got the amp from gave me a Boss DS-1 and told me to leave the level at 50%, tone to taste and Gain on a touch..wow very nice got my nice loud Chug back on the palm mutes.

Now with the EQ pretty much set I have been fooling with it and am pulling some nice sounds from it. Tried the channel volume down and master up and loved that too.

Its just an amazing flexible amp, very happy I picked it up..Forgot to mention that I got a great deal on it. Amp and cab WELL under $1000 and its less than a year old..
