Hi guys,

I'm trying to get a new amp with a nice clean.

I have mint Fender Blues Jr but it sounds just ok to me.

Theres Vox AC30 selling locally. and I'm trying to trade my

blues jr+400 cash for Ac30.

Is it a good deal?? AC30 is in good shape and so my bues junior.

I just want to know whether I'm getting ripped off or not...seems like

a good deal to me but want to hear you guys opinion...(since I don't know much about used amp value in the market..)

Thanks guys, any comments will be appreciated!

Cheers~!:food-smiley-004:

well, those amps are about $500 new, the ac-30s are about $850 new, so it doesn`t sound out of the ballpark to me. the ac-30 should hold its value slightly better, they`re a nicer sounding amp all around. best of luck

I think this could probably range from a "fair deal" to and "amazing deal" depending on the details of that AC30. Is it a combo or an amp head? If it's a combo, does it have Celestion Blues in it?
I don't know as much as most people about AC30s, but if it is 35 years old and works great, it would classify as a "amazing deal".

As bcmatt has said, the quality of your deal depends on what model/year the AC30 is.

This is the general concensus of capturing the vintage AC30s tone through the years:

Pre 1970 = Amazing.

1970-1990s = Eh, not so good. Definately try before you buy.

Early '90s AC30 reissue w/ solid state rectifier = Not bad.
... w/ Celestion Blues = Very good.

Later '90s British made reissues w/ tube rectifier & greenbacks = Very good.
... w/ Celestion blues = Great.

British made reissue Handwired pt to pt w/ celestion blues = Amazing.

Newer asian made CC (custom classic) combos, heads, etc etc = Not bad.
... with celestion blues = Good.

Good luck.

well, I can't tell you much about the amps themselves.. but how long ago did you buy the Fender?

Its just that I recently bought a new amp... and when I was shopping around, I asked all the stores if they would take my old amp for at least a portion of the price of the new one (so basically amp + cash). I don't necessairly trust sales people, but they basically all said it was a bad idea because of the current economical situation they have to sell their stuff for considerably cheaper than not too long ago, which of course means that they're not going to give you as much for your stuff either, relative to how much you paid for it.

Of course, if you just bought your Fender, then you probably wont have that problem.

One thing to have in mind with the CC series is that they do not have the EF86 channel, which is THE channel that gives vintage Vox its tone. I do not know how close the CCs get to the vintage or new handwire amps (that have the EF86 channel). Regarding the OP, it seems a good deal depending on what you are looking for... maybe not the vintage Vox tone, but possibly good cleans.

a new chinese vox ac 15 would be very close in worth to the blues jr.
i've seen them (the vox) in long and mac's for about $650
