Hello, new to the forum, and a cool place it is.

I have an Ibanez AFS75T, and looking to rewire it. I don't want to use
the original harness, and wondering what type of wire I should use. The wire
thats in there now has a small (22ga) wire for the controls, and in the same jacket, a thicker (maybe 20-18ga) bare ground. My question is, does the ground have to be larger than the signal wire? I know this wire isn't shielded, but should I use shielded wire? I'm wiring in a set of Gibson Burstbucker Pro's neck and bridge, allesandro pots, new switch and output jack, and a couple of Hovland caps. Sorry for the long post, but I have never rewired an electric guitar, and a hollowbody at that, so I don't want to be doing this anytime again.

Thanks
Rick

Don't over think this. In a humbucker style pickup there will be 8 to 12 THOUSAND feet of 42 or 43 gage wire. The few inches of wire from pickup to switch, or switch to controls and output jack are not going to make a huge difference. 22 ga. will be fine.

You can get everything you need here:

and unlike guitar parts canada, they seem to deliver in a timely fashion.

In addition to what Paul is saying, I would recommend using shielded single conductor wire...this way your ground (the shield) travels with your "hot" wire...also reduces the risk of additional hum in hollowbodies and semi-hollows. I 've used it many times and it makes the job easier and faster IMHO

BTW...you might want to rethink using "Dupa" as your forum name....PM me for the reason (unless you did it on purpose !!)

While checking out your link, I discovered the screws and compressible tubing that permit attaching pickups directly to the body...this concept intrigues me for my Avril Lavigne Telecaster...
