I am reading a revised, updated edition of Napoleon Hill's 3 major bestsellers, including "Think and Grow Rich".

I think I want to grow rich, so I can afford more guitar stuff!!

I need to read that book too. There's a guitar on eBay I've been lusting over for 7 days now and the auction ends in 4 hours. Maybe I need a speed-reading course first!

Find a niche (Do you have any special qualifications? Are your particularly good at something? Most importantly, is there a need for your product/service?), network network network, and build upon it. I cannot stress enough the importance of networking if you will be dealing directly with customers. You have to build a good reputation for yourself if you're going to work with people. Keep your overhead as low as possible.

It takes time, but everything will eventually begin start falling into place if you are able to cultivate a good relationship with your customers. Eventually, your business will grow and new opportunities will present themselves.

I know this is a tried-and-true formula but what if a person isn't good at anything?

Buy a franchise...preferably a Tim Horton if you're going to open it in Canada.

Honestly, a person who isn't good at anything needs to work at developing skills, including networking skills. In time, your business and reputation will grow. It takes time and hard work, but you have to be patient.

You have to look at the big picture. You have to be able to recognize good business opportunities as they present themselves. Look for the ones that allow for growth and expansion or long term stability...and low risk. You just have to be smart about it.

Don't start too big unless it's a sure thing (Tim Horton's) and do your research. Are you thinking about getting in retail, say a sandwich shop? Then check out the good locations. Count how many people walk in front of them during lunchtime. Check out the competition near each location. Do they serve sandwiches? Are they any better or cheaper than what you plan on serving? Take not of the number of customers that are walking in and out of these businesses.

Excellent book although I haven't checked out the revised edition!

The revised edition updates the archaic language, deletes many outdated examples, and inserts some modern day success stories...a great read.

Take an existing product and remarket it to another line of business. Ever see those bottles of fuel injector cleaner at Canadian Tire? The ones with the built in measuring cup? take that design and market it to the cooking oil companies so they can sell a more user friendly (and enviro friendly - less dishes to wash) product. Any liquid that needs to be portion controlled could benifit from this type of packaging with integrated tool.

If you can't sell it to a company produce them yourself and sell them to dollar stores.

I'm going to write a book about how to make a lot of money. It's going to say-after a lengthy preamble--write a book telling people to write a book about making money.

If I sell enough of them, I'll get rich!

Like the old newspaper ad: "Get rich quick. Send $2.00 for details"

You instruct those who send money to place an ad in the newspaper which says ......

I just use Internet marketing to make money for guitar gear/anything else... regular job pays for the important stuff. It's an extra $100-$500 every two weeks (sometimes more depending on the effort I put into it... don't have the time anymore) so it just goes into the bank and saves up until I can afford something I want. Working well so far... paid $10 for a book online to get into it a few years back.
