hey, anyone know the best way to insure stuff? I've heard homeowners insurance doesn't cover you if you are a professional musician, so what options are out there?
thx!!
My insurance company tells me that if you preform outside of your home, pro or not, you must have a seperate policy on your gear. The only way my homeowners insurance would cover it is if the gear never left my home.

there is a thread in the stolen gear section regarding insurance.

I believe they will answer the phone with "Hub Insurance" now.
They offer the best price I have been able to find. The cost is $2.75 per $100.00 insured, with a $50.00 deductible. That price is available to AFM members. For $25.00 more I got $1 000 000 in liability insurance.
I have 2 lists of gear. Gear I use for work, which is insured through this policy, and gear I keep at home for pleasure, which is listed on a rider on home insurance. If I use a "home" piece on a job, and suffer a loss, I'm SOL.

I suggest a new insurance company.
I had three instruments stolen from my home and they were covered. Of course if they had been stolen at a gig, I would have burned.

Well they were very cooperative.
Great company. I've dealt with them for decades and never made a claim. This one was completely legit of course. I ended up getting the Tele and mandolin back, but not the Strat (shame really) or the iPod.
The insurance company was reasonable with their settlement.

Don't get me started about insurance companies , I put them right there with oil companies and banks .
