Almost there. There's already been a late 70's early 80's glam revival of sorts.

Still I think most newer Gibby's I've played are s*#T quality ,and wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy overpriced ,compared to the quality some other company's are putting out.

And that bugs you because why exactly? I try not to concern myself too much with what everyone else is doing. And MMJ were playing old Gibsons. And they did sounded freaking great. No denying that. :)

Darkness broke up 2 years ago...that took quite a bit of steam out of the glam revival. They also used Les Pauls pretty much exclusively.

A few days ago, I was channel flipping and came across the Family Channel. There was an ad for a Disney TV movie or something called Rock Camp. I stopped flipping for a minute because the kid was 'playing' a Les Paul. There were Gibsons all over the place in this movie ad. No different than having actors drinking Coke I guess.

What's the surprise? Gibson and Fender pretty well 'own' most of the pro guitar market - between the 2 of them I'd guess 90-95%.

Yeah, makes me wonder what's next. Apparently, it was synth-pop and Queen last year.

So, we should be seeing spandex-wearing hairbands soon.

PS. I picked that clip specifically because you see Gibsons from beginning to end.

Funny thing is that it's the new country players that seem to be wielding the LesPauls now.

I'm not seeing a problem here. So what, people(me being one) like Gibson. Gibson makes lots of money and can advetise a lot. Thats the way the world works.

Also I had never heard of that band before, but I liked what I heard.

You're talking about The Darkness? The lead singer is quite talented. He was the lead guitarist, too. He'll also be playing the role of Screaming Lord Sutch in a movie.

Great band. They've helped restore the good name to Mesa's Rectifier lineup.

Funny thing is that it's the new country players that seem to be wielding the LesPauls now.

Nashville is dominated by John Suhr, Tom Anderson and James Tyler guitars. Most of the big session guys are using boutique strat and tele style guitars.

Hey, one of the reasons I got my Les Paul for so cheap is that everybody was going nuts over Charvels & Jacksons--but not me--I still wanted a Les Paul to add to my collection. And I thank Charvel/Jackson for their part.

new les paul dc...

Can you tell me more about the double-cuts? Why are they so much less expensive (like $1600 instead of $2300) than regular Standards? Do they sound the same as a regular Standard? What's the neck like? There's a beautiful one at Steve's in Montreal. They've had it for months now, lowered the price, put it on sale, I think they still have it. Nobody seem to want it.

Well, I don't know about the overall quality of newer Les Pauls (love the look, but hate the feel) but I've bought 2 SG's in the past year (a Special & a Standard) and both play great.

That DC does look real nice. I don't know why they're so much cheaper than a Standard SC. 2 less pots & an extra cutaway = $700? Blows me away...
