When I play my electric, every now and then, when the cable thats plugged in it moves a certain way, the sound is either replaced by silence, or a buzz (which is at the same level no matter what volume my guit is set to).

At first I thought this was due to my cheap cables, and them inevitably having a bad contact, but when I switched cables, and fiddled around at the output jack, I noticed that either the silence or the buzz happened when I pushed the metal part of the cable in certain directions inside the output jack. My output jack also gets pretty loose easily. Tightening it reduces the problem a bit, but not entirely.

So I'm guessing then its the output jack thats at fault, not the cables. It doesn't really bother me too much, since I mostly play at home, alone anyways, but it is a bit of a nuisance. So I was wondering how much I might expect a repair job of this sort to cost.

BTW, the guit isn't anything special, if that matters.

Thanks

shouldn't cost much. the part will be under $10 to replace, and the job shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes.

the connection point might just be bent outwards, pull the jack out, and look at it with the cable in it, if the point isn't making good contact, a pair of pliars will fix it free..

also to stop the jack from getting loose, a drop of nail polish would help hold it in place...
