but... I need a guitar tech in ottawa. i need a set up. and i dont want to pay the local shop $40 and wait 2 weeks. can someone help me?

There are lots in town, I like brian at the folklore centre. Turn around times are typically 1-2 weeks at least for anyone decent, and there aren't many repairs that cost less than $40. What are you looking to have done?

just looking for a hobbiest kinda guy that knows what hes doing. something that he does in his spare time that can be done in 2-3 days and be reasonably cheap.

i need a basic set up done. action adjustment, neck adjustment and new strings.

Being a student, you have access to a world full of information. Do it yourself. It's not rocket science but you do need to spend some time understanding the dynamic's and specifications of what a general set-up entails for various types of guitars.
It never ceases to amaze me the differences .001 can make in how a guitar sounds and plays.
Stewart Macdonald and Fret's are 2 good places to start looking on-line and educating yourself.
