Hello everyone,
I really want to learn electric guitar. My favorite electric guitarists are BB King, SRV, Buddy Guy, Eric Johnson, David Gilmour etc.
How difficult is it for a fingerstyle player to learn electric guitars and be able to play Blues Solo? I only play with thumpick and three fingers and never learn to play with a pick. And I am very new to scales etc. I personally feel that learning online lessons could be a better option then going to private classes…Anyone here knows a good source for online lessons for beginners interested in electric guitars.

I'd have a listen to Freddie King if I were you. You have all the tools you need if you can already play fingerstyle with thumb & fingerpicks.
OTOH, Albert Collins was a fingers only player; John Lee Hooker too, fingers only.

Can you read guitar tab?...I would try and learn some blues riffs/licks to start with.
Tab is easy to learn...basically your looking at the guitar neck with the name of each string and the the numbers# are the frets...22 frets 22 numbers...0 means open string.
Here are a few licks to work with...Im tabing these out without guitar in hand so i hope I dont make a mistake.
Hard to write out real tab with keyboard because it doesnt have all the symbols tab uses however for the purpose of this tab (0_1) means hammer on and ^ means bend.
E---4---------3---------2-------------0--
B----------------------------------------
G-4---4----3----3----2----2---(0_1)-----
D---------------------------
A---------------------------
E--------------------------
Only bend 7^ a 1/2 step and /6 means slide up to six...doesnt matter where your start from and the slide is quick but fluid and not rushed.
E----------7---5---------------
B-------5----------7^half bend--7--5----
G--/6------------------------
D--------------------------
A--------------------------
E---------------------------
the P stand for pull off...fret note with ring finger and pluck note 15 however have index on 12 so when you pull note off it playes the 12 note.
E----------------12------------------------------------
B-----------12--------(15 P 12)------------------------
G-12--13--------------------------14^full
D--------------------------------------------------
A------------------------------------------------------
E---------------------------------------------------

I'm also a finger style guitar player and picked up electric 2 years ago (been playing since 1973)
I don't expect to get as good as the players you mentioned, but then again I also have a day job...
As you already know, practice, practice, practice.
Do lots of scales, I kind of prefer Segovia's diatonic scales as a good starting point. They are available at most public libraries.
Mark Knopfler is also a fingers only player.
James Burton is another great influence, He uses a plectrum and fingers, very unique style.

i'll just add that to switch over to the electric, you're going to need to work on your "touch" (how lightly you hold the strings down), for maximum tone. other than that, it shouldn't be too hard, we're all just copping muddy waters licks anyways, and he switched from an acoustic to an electric...
Two words: Harry Manx. He's one of my favourite blues players.
You probably already have the skills to play the same notes as anyone on your list. But you will likely never sound like them, party because you don't have the same physical tools as them, and partly because you are not them.
Spend more time trying to create music as opposed to trying to re-create music and you'll have more fun, IMHO.

You're absolutely right, my acoustic players grip would pull strings sharp very easily. It took me a few weeks to learn to loosen my grip. :)

I applaud your decision to go online. A good source to learn electric guitar (http://www.hotstrings.net/order.php?cat_id=4) for beginners is hotstrings.
This is a cool new and fast beginner course without notes. Here you learn a short version of the basic elements of playing the guitar. The crash course has 30 daily lessons of different song styles such as rock ballads, pop songs, reggae, modern pop, funk and soul. Direct downloadable to your pc.

Yeah, u can definitely find a lot of info online for beginning guitar -- and most of it is free. All kinds of videos on youtube and stuff -- but beware....
I just got from the "beginner" level to the "intermediate" level -- but it was with help from an online course that I had to pay for. I had started with the free stuff but the problem was that I couldn't ORGANIZE the free lessons in any kind of moderately rational way.. I was always switching between various videos and there was no order to anything. So I was trying to do scales when I should have just been dealing with really basic picking technique and etc.
So eventually I decided I need to do an actual online course -- http://consumerfilter.org/products/jamorama -- it actually worked pretty well! I might recommend you try it out.
