Hi everyone,

I got some good feedback from my last thread, so this a continuation of sorts. I am definitely going to sell the Firebird VII, and my new question is, do I upgrade the electronics/pups in my Pacifica, or look at a new guitar? I have done some reading about the Schecter PT and PT Fastback. Looks like a good guitar for the price.

Any thoughts on the upgrade/Schecter/other ideas?

Thanks!

~Andrew

(generic answer ahead..)

which appeals to you more? is your pacifica going to be your main player, and it just needs better sound? or is it a fun guitar.. but not "the one".

schecter makes some fine guitars imo

Hi Budda,

I don't think the Pacifica will be the main player...I am torn, as I like playing it, but I think I want something else as the main guitar.

I have also started looking into Hagstrom guitars...especially the Ultra Swede and Special Series Ultra Swede...

Any opinions on the new Hagstroms?

I do not know what your budget is, but it you want to try something different, take a look at Carvin. Absolutely killer guitars for about $1-1.5K at your home. I am also in Kitchener, so if you want to try the ones in my avatar send me a PM and we will try to coordinate something.

Dr. Iggi & Danbo,

The budget would be in the <$800 range. That made me look at the Hagstroms as they are in the $400-$600 range. I have played a Carvin before, and love them.

PRS are very, very nice guitars, but a little pricey I think?

I played a Godin Velocity a few weeks ago that was amazing. $799 I think it was...

Dr. Iggi, do you play in a band?

Godin makes a ton of different models that might be attractive to you and thier pricing is very competitive; I think they are worth a close look. Failing that, I've messed around with some of the new Hagstroms quite a bit and I've come away very impressed with the Swedes and UltraSwedes... if you like heavy humbuckin' beasts falling into the general LP camp, they're worth a look. But they also make some stuff that's more of a cross between a Strat and an SG... I've had my hands on two or three of these and the quality has varied more than in the Swede line. Still, one of the three was a fantastic player. I'd look at those as well. You ought to be able to find a great guitar well within your $800 limit.

You cannot go wrong with a Godin. I owned a LG signature for over 4 years. I love those tung oiled necks. L&M always has a good selection. Play many and see which one talks to you.

Hey danbo, thanks for the heads up! Nice guitar, but not my cup o' tea design wise (hence why I am thinking of selling the firebird)

I am going to try and find somewhere to play a Hagstrom and see what they have to offer :)
