Guys, I feel like rewiring my ash strat. The last time I did it I used bits and peices, I 'd like to know if we have a Canadian retailer for pickguards and strat/les paul wiring kits that include wire, pots, caps. Save the hassle of ordering across the border. I want to use this axe as my test axe for pickups and such..

By the way, if none, what is the standard for wire gauge for rewiring? caps wise, ceramics good enough? Anyone notice the diff here? Just trying to get the best I can in there so when i am trying diff pickups, I am judging the tone of the pickup rather than poor wiring or components.

I've also tried to find a Canadian supplier of quality guitar electronics...so far no luck. L&M has some Allparts electronics in their stores and can order anything that's in their catalogue. Some of the stuff looks decent....ie. comparable to at least StewMac goods.
I do hear a difference that different capacitors make on the tone....usually in how warm/bright amd crisp/creamy the tone is. Experiment and see for yourself.

I've not had much luck either sourcing parts in Ontario.
When I do find parts they have been, in my experience, overpriced
and sub-standard quality.
Because of that I tend to use Stewmac and Guitar Fetish a lot. I recently purchased some Tele parts from Choppers Music in Manitoba
and was pleased with the quality and the level of service. They are an EBAY based store. http://stores.ebay.ca/CHOPPERS-MUSIC
Yes it can be a hassle to shop across the border though both stewmac and guitar fetish ship via the postal service so you don't get hammered on UPS brokerage fees. I've rarely had to wait more than 3 weeks to receive anything from stewmac, while guitar fetish is usually under 2 weeks.

I would use 22 gauge stranded hookup wire (20 or 24 standed would be fine also)
Caps......Oh boy.....now you are entering a much discussed area (both regarding electronic values of caps used, construction and choice of manufacturer, etc)
Caps can range from less than $0.50 each to over $10.00 each
The voltages in a guitar are minimal...so almost any reasonable voltage rating (on the cap) will be fine
Personally.... I'm OK with mylar caps. (ouch....I can feel the flames)
Peace
Dave
