So I got around to modding my blues driver to the Monte Allums H20 mod. (sounds great by the way). Anyway, when i was rehousing it, i forgot to put that plastic slip back in that sits between the traces on the circuit board and the back panel. This means when i screwed it back in and plugged it in, i shorted it to ground. The LED flased and burned and now no sound. Rookie mistake, what an idiot i am. I was all excited and watching tv and not paying attention. Anyway, i looked across the board, nothing looks like it is burned out, this leaves me to beleive the LED is blown but maybe also the burr chip that comes with the kit. Could this result in no sound? I am not getting sweet all through this thing. Wondering if i should buy a new chip or if it is screwed for good because the components are soo small that it could be anything. Can someone who understands pedal circuitry let me know what i might check? I thought there... i mean, any of those damn traces could have been grounded. I am just guessing it is the chip seeing as everything else looks normal.

Thanks!

Well atleast i had killer tone for about 30 min before i put it back together lol.

I'd try the chip, it is probably the most sensitive component on the board. If not the chip try an audio probe and follow your signal till it stops.

do you have a schematic for this pedal? If not go here and get this one

Start by tracing voltages in the circuit. I'd check the diodes in the power circuit, if you're lucky one or two of those went first. Op amps are pretty hardy little devices and will take alot (except reverse polarity). Hope this helps.

Bingo the chip.. i swapped the old one back in (sounds like $hit in comparison) and it works again. Guess i need to go hunting for a Burr brown chip somewhere in Canada... which of course will result in me having to spend 15$ on a 4$ part and wait two weeks lol.

Digikey and allied consolidate to Canada and then ship purolator....but you'll need to make a certain minimum to qualify. I'm also just about to do a smallbear order so you're welcome to ride my coattails....ie. let me know what you need and I'll can get it mailed to you.

Thanks for the offer! Actually, I am thinking of getting another kit from Monte so I will just throw it on there if my local electronic shop can't help me out. But I do appreciate the offer. Good folks around here. sdsre

I am a huge advocate for Small bear. Reasonable shipping and you'll have it in under a week!

Are they that fast at shipping? I find most places dreadfully slow going on two weeks.
