I saw this a while back and meant to post it--has anybody seen this?
Solidbodies, The 50 Year Guitar War (http://www.solidbodiesthemovie.com/)

I'm seriously considering getting it--it looks entertaining, fun, and probably full of contradictory opinions. That last one is not a putdown. But the "war" between Les Pauls & Strats has gone on for awhile.

years ago when I only had my classical, a Les Paul copy, and a EB-3 copy bass, I used to "debate" Gibson vs Fender with a friend of mine who only had an acoustic Gibson copy. He would tell me how great Fenders were & I would extol the virtues of Gibson. Ironically, he bought 2 Gibsons (both Les Paul Customs) before he owned a Fender (a P-Bass), and I owned a Fender (Mustang) before he did and before I owned a Gibson (Les Paul Custom).

Neither of us has ever owned a Strat--although he briefly had a Strat copy he put together himself from different parts he picked out. SO in our case the Les Paul vs Strat war was won 3-sort of 1 for the Les Paul and 3-2 for Gibson over Fender.

Of course it's not a total one or the other war. You can like, own and play both. But it still looks like fun.

thanks for the link, looks interesting.

It has been a 'war' I guess, at least until you have both. Then you don't have to take sides.

Never understood the binary mentality of one tool vs. another, especially if they're actually pretty different.
But even Darwin talked about competition being greatest between close competitors and tailing off with increasing distance...I think that was all finally quantified by John Maynard-Smith...
I actually saw some people arguing the toss over Ford vs. Chevy (I think, I could care less) like it mattered.
Whatever. I always wanted a Shergold Masquerader anyway...but I have a 335

For me the war involves different opponents. It's single cut versus double cut. The single cut lost big time. I have strat, but I also have a Hamer P90 Special and a MIJ ES335 style.

I LOVE the sound of a LP, but my hand just don't like the single cut and the heel. Not as bad with a telecaster, but still bothersome.

I noodled on an ES339 the other week. - PURE HEAVEN.

i find you cant compare 2 companies guitars. its like comparing a ferrari with a stationwagon. gibson sgs and les pauls are used differently then fender strat. i prefer the gibson sg because of the distortion i can get from it, unlike from a strat. also the solo ability with a sg then a fender i find is better for me. but it looks interesting i might get it....

Well I did state in my post that there's no reason you can't like both--but this looks like a fun DVD.

Agree. And I assume we are talking electrics here. I would chose three.

A Stratocaster. An ES339. A Les Paul Special DC with P90s.Two Gibbys and a Leo.

WEll, for the DVD yesturday and watched it last night. it's a nice documentary but for 20$ i was expecting something a bit longuer then 50 minutes. They could have gone longuer and go more in depth about the 2 company. i still learned a few things about the history of the instrument, but i wanted more..hehe. every few minutes you have some guys playing as transition so i would have removed those and put more content personnaly.

Is it worth the buy?!@....well, you be the judge realy. Funny thing is Fender seems the winner when watching the documentary doh..:)..
