I have a MIJ 335 copy (1981) and the bridge "posts" are threaded directly into the centre block of the guitar.

A friend suggested that I take the posts out, thread a nut onto them and then tighten the nut up against the body of the guitar after putting the bridge back in place.

He feels that it will improve tone and sustain, along with preventing tipping of the bridge.

Please help me to decide if I should try this.

Thanks

Peace

Dave

hmmm interesting idea, really... assuming the setup specs allow you the room to put a set-nut on the bridge, it sounds like a good idea....

anyone? i would guess that the tension of the strings makes it largely obviated in terms of tone and sustain (they're going to push down enough to lock the bridge in place anyways), but the tipping of the bridge should be helped... might throw your intonation completely off kilter though, lol..

Suttree...there is lots of room under the bridge...probably about 5/16 to 3/8 inch.

Thanks for your thoughts.
