Hi Guys,
Great to see a forum like this!
I am not a real guitarist (I play Guitar Hero from time to time :P). But my little brother is. He has been learning to play for 2 years now and he wants to buy an electric guitar. That is the reason I joined this forum because I want to buy him the guitar for his Birthday (surprise gift).
He told me what he was looking for. I want to spend around $400 on it.
He wants a left handed guitar with a floyd rose whammy (sorry if I don't make sense...I am new to this)
He once sent me this link http://www.zzounds.com/item--IBARG370DXL
which is around the budget.
do you guys suggest anything else?
thanks a lot for your help.

Here is a chance for a quality guitar possibly in your price range. No whammy but you won't get better quality in this price range, which your brother will realize in time- FYI.

This thing has been floating around for a while. I own a right handed model. They are good for what ails ya. I upgraded pickups but for your brother it would be fine.
oh and it's a lefty in the right handed category you will probably get it for that price.

First off; Kudos to you War1000 for lookin out for your little bro!
The thing with whammy bars is some are prone to tuning problems and will be discouraging to the player. I have a Yamaha RGX and the vibrato is a POS, that's why the guitar is 'parts' now, not in sig.
A Squier or MIM Strat might be a good choice but again, some of them have problems with staying in tune, (but are easy to upgrade). Can't comment on Ibanez, etc. Keep lookin!

I agree regarding the potential tuning problems that he will encounter with a guitar in this price range, thus causing frustration instead of developement. We are just speaking from experience so he may have to learn the truth on his own- good luck.

$440 (shipped) will get you a G & L Tribute Legacy.
This should be a better quality guitar than those low end Ibanez guitars.

Where in Ontario are you?? You can visit a store that sells guitars and there very well may be some selection for you to look at and to choose from.
You can try Steve's Music or Long and McQuade which are just 2 that have stores in different cities in Canada. If you post where you are or which is the largest city near you, I am sure that members of this forum could steer you to a reputable store.

Hey War1000! Check out Skydigger's DeArmond;

Unless little bro is determined to have a strat-style guitar, this would be awesome. I'd jump on it but I have a property-tax bill to pay.

Thanks Michelle,
I LOVE this guitar, but I'm trying to raise money for a warmoth (or MAYBE) a new Reverend.
What you're getting is a killer guitar w\bigsby. When I bought it from Southpaw they were blown away when I sent them pics and told them I ordered the silver sparkle. They told me they haven't seen a black one in years as only 25 (or 50) lefties were ever made in black. Everyone I have ever seen were either Champaign or Silver sparkle.
Hey War1000, for you only, I'll throw in my line6 toneport UX-1 headphone amp for your brother. It is awesome, but i've got a low watt gibson amp that I'm using and the Line 6 is just sitting on my desk...
I love this guitar so much I almost bought a second one just to start a little collection of these highly respected guitars. Plus I assure you that this will FAR surpass all lower end ibanez guitars your bro might be looking at.

great responses guys!
I am in Toronto. I am going to check out these guitars. I am not in a hurry yet to buy it as his Birthday is in November. But I wanted to search early to I could find the best (near best) deal/guitar for him. Thanks again!
