Washburn makes one, or used to. I'd probably check out Ibanez first, since 7 string guitars more typically appeal to metal players and Ibanez probably has a low or mid-range 7 stringer in their lineup. There are others like Rondo, but they're mail-order so you can't get hands-on until you've already bought it. That's always been a deal-breaker for me but your mileage may vary.

Lastly, good luck!

A great entry level 7 string that doesn't completely suck is the Ibanez RG7321 which you could buy brand new for dirt cheap. You could also get a higher end USED 7 string from Ibanez or Schecter but that's if you're ok with used gear 'cause not everyone is ok with that. Brand new though, a RG7321 to get into the whole 7 string thing is hard to beat.

Agile makes a couple that look to be really good value:

flame maple: http://www.rondomusic.com/interceptorblackflm.html ($430)

A guy in Burlington sold his mint Ibanez Universe 777 (my fave) this week, for about $1100., which I'd consider a steal...but its a lot if you arent completely committed to playing 7 strings.
Ibanez K7's are nice too...the thing about Ibanez's is theres so many chinese knock-offs on the market, its scary not knowing what you're actually buying if it doesnt include original receipts/case candy.

Used Schecter C7 blackjack or Hellraiser. hard to beat in that price range.

if you like FR trems, hav a look at the Agile 7's at www.rondomusic.net

I own a C7, and it's a great guitar. I'm selling it because i dont find the neck thick enough LOL (its just not as comfy as i'd like. stellar guitar)

you could also look at the Schecter Omen 7 and Omen 7 extreme if you want something a bit more affordable.

what kind of bridge do you want? that easily determines if you're buying schecter or ibanez lol. also, dont get an RG7321, there's much better guitars for only a little extra moola.

myself and electrix are on www.sevenstring.org, which is pretty much THE resource forum on 7's. I tend to stay away from ibanez 7's because, well.. i like mahogany and stoptails :D

Personnaly I would go with an ESP one! The Carpenter's signature is really good!
For a cheaper one go with an Ibanez!

I vote Ibanez RG1527 or if you want to go cheaper the Ibanez RG7321.

It's all personal preference go try them. RG1527 = low profile trem = more comfortable on the picking hand, for me at least. I also prefer the fixed bridge on the RG7321 compared to any other kind... again just more comfortable for me.

the RG's are all basswood.. depends on if you like the sound and midrange response of basswood.

Schecter C7's are mahogany, as are the LTD Steph Carpenter sig's. the thing about the LTD's is you may find that middle pickup a real annoyance!

like i said, what kind of trem you want narrows down your options pretty quickly lol.

Personnally, I find that Schecter 7 stringers are amazing, especially for the price.

I have a C-7 Blackjack, and it's really comfortable. It doesn't feel as wide as other 7 stringers I have tried, almost like a classical 6 string guitar.

May I suggest trying a baritone electric if you are going for the heavy sound. Its similar to a normal 6-string but a slightly longer neck and a different tuning (IIRC its a 5th down from the normal). You can still use your normal chord shapes which makes it easy to play standard guitar parts without have to deal with [re-]learning a new instrument.

Schecter makes a nice looking one as well as Fender.

Funny thing is, I had a conversation at the local music store about this the other day.

There's a local Toronto guy who brought in some really nice solid-body 7-string electrics built by European custom builder Witkowski. Most of them are Str*t and T*le shaped, with high-end hardware and fairly narrow necks. Bodies are korina, alder, framire, maybe a few other woods. Necks are maple or birds-eye maple with rosewood boards. I grabbed one (framire body, rosewood board, hardtail strat-style hardware) and it's great.

Witkowski is at:

witkowskiguitars.com

I know he has a few left in Toronto - feel free to PM me if you want more info.
