i purchased a gibson les paul studio a lil while back, and was just wondering, what should i use to clean it. i've been wiping it with the cloth that came with it but i find that on the neck, it is feeling like the wax or whatever was on there is starting to fade. can someone give me some tips on cleaning.
in the manual it just says to use some good guitar polish.
thanks

You can get stuff at your local guitar store.
I use Dunlop Formula 65

I clean mine whenever I get really OCD about it. I'd think too much use would be harmful to the finish. Maybe once a week? I clean the neck of my studio every couple days because it's got some crazy buildup

I just play mine... wipe down the strings + fingerboard if I was playing for a longish time... if I think about it, that is.
None of my stuff have finishes that I "fret" over - no flamey this, no quilty that. So I just chill.

thats what i was just doing at first but i notice that the neck isn't as smooth as it used to be, the rest of the guitar is still like new

then grab your shirt, and wipe down the neck.
I polish my guitar (usually) after a few hours of good playign time. half the guitar will be covered in sweat at that point, and i already have a slightly dull spot in the finish where i let sweat sit on the finish for a while.

ok, i'm gonna stop playing for a bit till i get some polish, i don't wanna ruin the finish. feals like i did already, it feels so dull now, i'm guessin some polish will fix that though. i hope so. the guitar is brand new.

is there a section on this site about good songs to play. right now i'm learning just picking songs, i'm gonna wait till i'm familiar with all the strings before moving on to strumming. i can play a few riffs right now, but would like to know a few catchy tunes. i can play stuff like mario bros theme, enter sandman, come as you are, heart shaped box, sweet child of mine, one, crazy train, beast and the harlot, inspector gadget.
anyone know of any others.

That's the beauty of owning already broken-in guitars. I don't 'sweat' that stuff. Swirls and bits of dullness here and there tend not to bother me. I do try to keep the fingerboards clean and will gently scrape the bits of crud off there and even oil the necks from time to time, but that's about the extent of it. Maybe blow the dust off of one I've not played in a few weeks, that sort of thing.
However, I do understand that some people have more corrosive body chemistry than others... maybe I've been lucky so far. Probably the much bigger factor is the fact that, unlike many veteran performers here, I don't play out in clubs and whatnot. I'm not working up a sweat, period. Meaning I'm rarely playing for two-hours straight, much less under hot lights... guess I'm a lightweight in that regard.

Never a fan of gold hardware here but I just love the soft natural look of that wood. What a stunning keeper of a guitar.

How is it ever going to get relicked if you baby it so much.
It's fine to clean it often, but I wouldn't worry about playing without a wax job after every session.
Don't worry so much!
It's a very pretty guitar and is probably very tough.
My Lester is.

haha, funny thing is, is that i'm playing it right now lol. i guess i didn't mean it when i said that i won't use it till i get some polish :)
i'm trying to figure out some good tunes to learn but i can't think of any
i have guitar pro 5, so learning songs are pretty easy once i know what song.
and thanks for the compliment
