I hear many bad things about Gibson lately, and I am not here to comment on that stuff. However, I just wanted to mention some positive feedback about their customer service.
I purchased a USA Standard Slash model on April 1 and my local dealer said that they did not come with a certificate of authenticity. After reading a bit more online, I found out that they did come with COA's. I called the dealer who I bought the guitar from and they had no idea about this. I checked with Gibson USA and they responded immediately with contact information for the distributor here in Canada. I checked with them and by the next day they had already called my dealer with all of my info and sent the COA out to them with instructions to call me as soon as they get it.
I think that is excellent customer service...something sorely lacking in most places today. That's my story. Kudos to Gibson on this one.
By the way, the Slash LP ROCKS too, so good for Gibson on that too.

I agree, thats where Gibson really shines. They conduct themselves as a legitimate business, not a bunch of wannabe rockstars and roadies.
I've always gotten responses from them for information via emails to customer service.

They certainly were nice and efficient when I emailed about my used Les Paul.
The same day they wrote back with the date of manufacture in Memphis.
It was quick and efficient.
I just don't like some of their marketing ideas.
I wouldn't buy a 4000 dollar guitar from MF. That would be silly.

Oh yah, I am not saying that everything that Gibson does is good...far from it I think, but at least the customer service is top notch.

Hmm, according to some sources mine was made in Tennessee--to others it was made in Kalamazoo, others--it could have been made in either place. Then I find out it was made when there was just Kalamazoo--probably.
Maybe I should send something to them.

with counterfeits out there, it's a good idea to run your serial number by Gibson before you buy, unless you're buying from a reputable dealer.
IMO 99% of the 'bad stuff' you hear about Gibson boils down to the fact that the guy saying it can't afford one. The other 1% are reasonable complaints, but Gibson has a warranty to look after that. If it's another issue, well, don't buy it, buy a different one.
The thing that bugs me, if you are a first owner in the US, you get a lifetime warranty. Up here, L&M only gives you something like 1 year. But that's not Gibson, that's L&M (their Canadian Distributor). Either way, the warranty doesn't transfer, so if you buy used, like I usually do, it doesn't matter at all.

Anyone have a link for Gibsons support.I'm looking for some tuning pegs for a 50's LG-1 acoustic.I've talked to the local guibson dealer and let's just say he was less than helpful.Tried selling me some other tuning pegs that I would have to drill out my headstock to install.Ya right, the guitar is near mint just the plastic pieces on the pegs have rotted away.

Yeah - the Canadian distributor is great to deal with. I picked up a SG Special last year that was damaged & they had a replacement shipped to the dealer within a couple of days.
As for Gibson, I just picked up a new (late '07 manufactured) SG Standard that's just a killer player. Pickups are a bit microphonic, but I can take care of that. It was also about $200 less than the US street price.
Gibson's list prices are retarded, but the street prices are much more reasonable (a new SG standard lists for $2419 but streets for around $1575 in the US...got mine for $1375 CAD at L&M/Musicstop).

This book:
http://www.amazon.com/Guitar-Player-Repair-Guide-Erlewine/dp/0879302917
has a small section about replacing/repairing the buttons on vintage tuning machines.
The the "contact Dan" here:
http://www.danerlewine.com/
To get info from the horses mouth.
You could probably ship the tuners to him, and he'd send 'em back ready to re-install.

Did you buy the guitar at Long & McQuade or Guitarworks?
L&M/Yorkville IS the distributor for Gibson in Canada (and Iceland...how strange is that pairing?) and they would know that straight up. I nearly bought the Custom Shop Slash guitar...decided against it because I don't feel the quality matched the 5K price tag. I played the factory floor models and didnt like them...I HATE that little skinny neck. Having said that the non CS models DID have COA's at the Calgary L&M.
While on the subject of the Slash guitar.....the Custom Shop one has a big neck not a 60's neck.
Guitarworks doesnt always let things go and lots of info/items get lost in their mix.
