Finally picked up a 4/12 today. Its a JCM 800 1960 slant cab, it matches my '85 JCM 800 100W. Couldn't be happier with it. Does anyone know how to date the serial numbers? The owner was unsure about the date of it and I would like to find out. Also it had these Power Pro Audio speakers. I always thought that the 75watt Celestions were the standard speakers for these cabs. Does anyone have any info on them?

if you get the date codes that are stamped on the speakers, you can go to the celestion website and date them there.

I'm no expert but I thought that you'd find Celestions in there (G12H65's? - 75's in the 900 cab). Never heard of Power Pro Audio.
Maybe float your question on TGP - somebody there should know.

i also found it bizarre. definitely not stock speakers, but sounds like it might be some hi-fi audio brand..?
weird that they were swapped for something non celestion or eminence though. how does it sound? can you compare to a stock cab?

As far as I can tell they are the stock speakers that came in it. The soldering on the speakers is one indication that they came with it. Its very contained withno blotches or anything, hard to explain but it just looks like factory work. The screws in these speakers are another thing. They were mismatched and were completely different than any screws i've ever seen which tells me that they're from England. They have an interesting sound. With all 4 it had a compressed, slighty midrange-heavy tone. Very interesting, but I did notice it was a lot quieter. I put 2 JBL's in it yesterday and that made all the difference. Much louder with more bottom end and less compression.

im not sure how true this is, but my stock factory cab didnt come with the speakers soldered in. they were a simple pull-the-wires then push-the-wires replacement.
stock 1960A's and B's for at least the last 10 years have shipped with the G12T-75's.

Unless you got a really smokin deal on the cabinet (ie you can replace the speakers) I'd be very concerned they aren't Celestions.
Doing a quick Google I found this on Kijiji
Power Pro Audio Guitar Amp NEW w/ variable over drive effect!
Price: $59.00 (20 watt with 6 1/2" speaker)
Looks like Power Pro is a cheap import line?

The speakers are very cheap. They don't even have a proper voice coil in them. Its all plastic. I got a very good deal on it, so changing the speakers isn't that big a deal to me. I already put 2 JBL's in it that improved the sound a lot, I think I might look for some Eminence or something to blend with the JBL's for a sweeter midrange. Any recommendations?

whew, that's great then. I thought you'd gotten hosed.
test as many speakers as you can, crucial to your sound chain.
