Just got a Traynor YGL-3A head (MACH III). These are not as common as the combos.

Known as "a twin on steroids" this pushes 4 EL 34s, uses transformers the size of your head, has reverb, tremolo, and a master.

Mine doesn't have any grill cloth, handle, or logo (argh) and someone removed two knobs and the one channel's bright switch (why?). But the amp seems to work quite well. Oh yeah, it came loaded with 4 Mullard EL 34s!

Not sure if I will keep it because I simply don' t need another amp and we are moving too. I've also been told these can used as great bass amps. May be open to interesting trade offers, but for now I will just enjoy it for awhile.

Does anyone know which preamp tubes do what? There are two 12ax7s at the "front" of the chassis, and a couple at the back. I know the EL 84 is driving the reverb, but which tube is the reverb recovery?

I wouldn't mind some tech info on these amps too. My YGL3 combo has a kinda wonky sounding reverb and I think it might be the tubes. A heads up as to what does what would be sweet!

There are three 12ax7s at the front of the amp's chassis. Two are for the input of channel one and two, and the one "hiding" behind the transformer and/or fan is for the tremolo.

Across the back row left to right you have the 4 power tubes, then the Phase Inverter. Next is the EL84 that drives the reverb, then 12ax7 that acts as the reverb recovery. I switched this 12ax7 for a 12au7 and it makes the reverb much more managable.

Total of 10 tubes!

It's a very cool amp but I shouldn't have bought it. We are moving and my financee was not please to see this new addition to our living room. At least mines the head rather than the combo! :)
