Hey,
I'm planning to buy a Traynor amp when I move to Toronto in a few days. But could anyone tell me how much a YCV40 and YCV50Blue costs?
What is the difference between the two? I mostly play punk (Bad Religion, The Offspring.. etc), classic rock and some metal, so I would like one with a decent amount of gain, but can also have a nice clean channel. Also, do these amps take well to pedals?
Thanks.

I'd get a YCV50 for anything heavier then rock, or the new YCS50/YCS90.
you're lookin at around $500 for a used YCV50.
traynors have one of the best cleans i've ever heard - and i heard a lot of fenders last night lol. they take pedals well.
may want a closedback 212 combo to run with whatever combo you decide to get - openback amps dont usually fare well for metal.

For a bit of revisionist Traynor "history," maybe check out the YBA-1 Bassmaster mod article in the March 2008 Vintage Guitar magazine (Chapters/Indigo and others).

I've owned em all and I say YCS.
Lot of people like the YCV sound and that is in the YCS series along with so much more.

If I was going to buy an amp in the Toronto area, I would consider other manufacturers, as well as Traynor.

The YCS is cool, but one thing that 50blue has over it is size. I was shocked at what a beast the YCS is first time I saw it. I would not want to be lugging it around. The 50blue while fiarly heavy, is still a really nice sized amp to carry around to gigs. Especially considering it's power. But ya, either amp fits what you are looking for very well. I don't know of many other combos in that price range that have such great gain. In fact, I am not sure if I know of any.

In the last 4 yrs or so I've owned/played the whole Custom Valve lineup.
YCV20/40/50Blue & 15Blue. I like the 50 & 15Blue the best, with the 50 probably being the most versitile. Nice clean and drive channel.
I tried the new YCS 50 and wasn't impressed. It has just too much going on for me, with all these buttons and options. It's a beast as well, a real big combo amp.

The YCS is a big brute but it can sound small if you want it too! The first gig I played with mine was some clean semi clean noodling in a Folk Trio setting for about 50 people. The sound with my Strat was perfect, I loved my Big small amp :)
I also play it in a Soul / Funk Band with an ES-335 and I basically just crank it up in the 15watt mode till it starts to break up and back off a bit, It sounds very Authentic to the Style.
When I owned and played the YCV amps after my initial Luv in was over I could not get over a Mid Spike or hump or sound that they All Had, I went through the 40 to the 40WR to the 50 trying to get rid of it. The YCS does not have this sound and I wonder if the Cabinet Shape has anything to do with that ??? If so I'm all for it.
As for all the buttons and knobs - it sure looks Busy - my first impression! Especially the three channel, But they are all pretty usefull - except maybe the scoop and expander for me.
