I don't know why but I get really pissed off whenever I see these amps. They have them listed at 600 watts when they are really 70 watts. How can anyone legally do this? http://www.nextag.com/Pyramid-GA610-Guitar-Amplifier-500010824/prices-html?nxtg=c28d0a1c051f-AD9A3A0BAF9762B7
Yeah I'm sure you have a 600 watt amp for 80 bucks you ****ing assholes. PISS OFF! ARG! I guess what gets me is that people fall for this (somehow) and are disappointed. It's blatant false advertising! I don't know. Maybe there's something I'm somehow missing.

600 watts peak but 70 watts RMS? IT AINT RIGHT! *cries*

Pyramid...
'Nuff said
I had a pair of $20 computer speakers powered by an 8V, 500mA wallwart. They advertized it as 250 watts peak http://members.dowco.net/~canadageek/smilies/lol.gif

I wouldn't buy anything that is spec'd with PMPO.

Maybe its got ten 60w lightbulbs inside the enclosure!

well, as much as i hate peak watts, if they're all i have to go by, i generally assume that they're roughly twice the program power rating, which is usually roughly twice the RMS rating. all manufacturers should post RMS watts though, it's the only rating that means anything. this means you, yorkville... music power? wtf, now you get to make up your own wattage standards entirely? i swear i find it hard to see yorkville as a pro audio company because of this, even though some of their speakers are really quite good.

It's impossible to put out more watts than it takes in so. I'd like to see the power consumption on this thing so I can work this out. If you're telling me that thing takes in at least 600 watts for 70 watts RMS, it has poor power efficiency. If it takes in less than that and somehow puts out 600 watts, I'm sure the global community would LOVE to see how you get extra energy out of nothing.

"Get ready all of you Guitar fans! Or how about if you need a PA for an auditorium?"
"8'' High Definition Speaker"
Hmmmmm .... must be for the auditorium at the flea circus
Strange and misleading descriptions have been around for a long time.
A quote from one well-known manufacturer's catalog describing the qualities of one of it's amps:
"Tubes used: 3-7025, 2-12AT7 and 1-12AX7(each dual purpose), 4-6L6GC, Silicon Rectifiers. The dual purpose tubes make the <amp name withheld to protect the innocent> equivalent of an eighteen tube amplifier."

I'm under the impression that Crown does just that with their high power light weight power amplifiers by using capacitors to build up reserve energy for burst power requirements. I'm not a EE by any stretch, so I make no claims that the previous sentence makes any sense.

they do do that, but the average power consumption is still going to have to be more than it outputs, over the long term.

A linear amplifier (like an audio amplifier) theoretically can achieve maybe 33% efficiency. In the real world you'd be happy to get a bit over 20%.
That's just the way the universe works. Mother Nature doesn't give a hoot what a marketing man might say in his ads.

Ahh, but the linear amp is actually 100% efficient - just not at doing the job you want it to do. Remember the Bryston 6B's? We used to run them hard all night long and then throw the amprack in the band room to help us keep warm at night.

No company should have such a demographic. It's immoral and wrong and it just makes me........ AH! If I ever met someone who says Pyramid is better moraly than Behringer is, I'd have to break their nose (not really seeing as how I'm non-violent but a guy that used to work at my fav pawn shop hated Behringer). At least Behringer never ripped off the little guy :(. Why aren't there government regulations on HOW things are advertised?

here (http://www.behringer.com/CT100/index.cfm?lang=eng) they are ripping off the little guy (http://www.ebtechaudio.com/swizzdes.html)
also, uli berhinger is basically detested by his suppliers and manufacturers, for doing some pretty amoral things. behringer gear is what it is, so is pyramid. it's up to us to research our way to the right decision, or to ask someone who's made it their job to know the differences, and why you might want to pay more for some gear than whatever is the cheapest available. of course, internet shoppers figure they're getting screwed the moment they walk into a retailer and see a price that's higher than at music123 or wherever. caveat emptor, as they say.

Bigger (louder) is not always better...if you remember that old adage, you're less likely to get suckered by unscrupulous companies or advertising campaigns.
