Does anyone know, is there a type of distortion, or brand/model of pedal, that works equally well with guitar and bass? So far whatever I've tried has been less than stellar at both bass and guitar.

Thanks for your consideration.

Peace, Mooh.

Dont know much about bass guitar effects however MXR has the bass blowtorch overdrive which might be what your looking for however im not sure if it will work for guitar and bass...better off buying seperate distortions for both guitar and bass I think.

You could, in theory (I might be wrong), build a fuzz face that is attuned for the low frequencies and higher frequencies. A high pass/low pass filter could also be used to make a two part device. One section (ex. a fuzz face) for guitar and another (ex. a bazz face) for the bass. I might just be off my rocker, but thats normal...

This Gruntbox sounds really cool and is designed for bass (thanks mHammer.)

I can prototype one for you if you want.

Part of the secret of a pleasing bass distortion is keeping the growl in but the fizz and sizzle out. Mixing in a bit of clean signal is also very helpful. Keep in mind that you always want the pitch of the bass to be as obvious as possible so that the other musicians have the freedom to diverge from the basic root note. Keeping it clean and growl-ey strikes me as being key to that objective. But that's just me.

Wheeman - there are probably some things that can be improved about the basic Gruntbox. Drop me a PM if you wanted some input.
