Speaker Wire Help!

I've just built a guitar cabinet and I was wondering what gauge wire and type should I use to connect the speaker to the cabinet input jack plate.

I use either 14 or 16 guage. I've seen allot of commercially built cabinets that are rated in the thousands of watts that have used from 18 to 24.
