Got the green light to take the plunge but I don't know which one I want to get. For those of you who have either one (or both!!) which one would you recommend.

I love FPS's and really want to play Halo 3 and of course CD4 and the like. Also like games like Virtua Fighter and DOA.

For those of you who are married with kids you'll understand that I may have a small window of opportunity to get this - want to make sure I get the right one.

HELP!!

If you are lookin for a purely gaming machine the Xbox 360 all the way.

Better online experience. Achievements getting addicting as all hell. Rumble in the controller. Larger game library of which contains the most FPS.

Make sure you get a newer one with HDMI and 170 Watt power supply. The die size has been reduced and they run cooler.

Media Center extender is great bonus as well.

The only upside to a PS3, in my opinion, is the blu-ray playback and I believe playing online is free. If none of those are deal breakers, 360 all the way... I agree with everything Jeff said.

Roles have reversed, I used to prefer Sony over Microsoft back in the PS2/Xbox days.

SOLD!! I'm buying an xBox360.

Now. Is there any benefit to buying the one with the large hard drive. There are 3 different HD options, 256MB, 20GB and 120GB. I could see it if I was able to use it as a PVR or something but from what I've read there doesn't seem to be a benefit to getting the 120GB.

Anything I am not aware of??

Go with the 20GB hard drive model at the least. Some games will require it.

If you plan on downloading lots of game demos and arcarde games or even using the Live Marketplace movie download service you might want to consider the 120GB. It doesn't take long to fill the 20GB. Ultimately it's what you can afford out of the 2.

Well, I stopped by Costco tonight and picked up a leftover xBox Pro Holiday Bundle. It has the component HD cable, 2 controllers, headset, controller charger and 2 games. All for $459.00. Now I have to integrate it into my system and I'm off to the races. Thanks!

Are you guys using HDMI or Component Video. The reason I ask is that the CV cables that came with the xBox have an additional optical out for sound which I can route to my home theatre system. If I use HDMI to the TV, there is no other audio out I can use for the home theatre. Is there a big difference between CV and HDMI when it comes to xBox gaming?? I'm using it with a 50" HD Plasma.

HDMI is a little crisper. Most people view component being a little softer picture. Nothing to write home about though. HDMI will allow DVD playback to be upscaled and if you have the HD-DVD addon it will allow for a full 1080p in playback.

For gaming component will do everything you need it to included upscaling to 1080p over component if your TV accepts it. Games only though.

There is a special adapter that comes with elite that allows the hdmi cable and optical to be hooked up at the same time. It's sold as well but not worth the $50 in my opinion.

Ultimately you need to look at a HDMI switching amp.:smile::smile: Something that can handle the HDMI 1.3 and all the latest audio formats included on HD-DVDs and Blu-Ray.

Interesting about the upscaling Game/DVD. I didn't know that. I already have an upscaling DVD player and don't intend to buy the HD DVD add-on. I have a Denon S-301 HTS which supports HDMI and upscaling but does not have have HDMI inputs. Only one HDMI output. I guess I'll have to go with component video for the xBox 360. As for the HDMI adapter, I couldn't find anything online. $50 seems kinda high for that though.

This is the kit I was talking about. Comes with HDMI cable and a special dongle to get the audio out via toslink as well.

Saw the HDMI Cable kit at EB Games for $60/ Decided to go with the component video hook-up that came with the bundle. Looks fantastic on my TV. Incredible detail. Can't imagine much better but who knows. Played Halo 3 for an hour or so and what a great looking game. I have a bunch of games on my "to get" list now: Bioshock, Gears of War and others. Once I make it through Halo...

Thanks for all the help and recommendations!

What's your Xbox Live call sign?

Let me add a couple more games to your list.

Call of Duty 4
Rock Band (Full kit of course, the drums rule)
Rainbow Six 2 (Coming out shortly)

You should get yourself one of these and then pickup Forza 2 and Dirt.

Not hooked up to xBox Live yet. I'm gonna have to fork out the money for the wireless adapter. COD 4 is definitely on my list now. Forza II came with my bundle and I tried it out last night. Awesome driving game. I'm gonna have to get a steering wheel at some point, but just by the looks of that thing in the picture I can tell it is mucho dinero! Not something I can slide into the house under the radar, so to speak. lol!

It'll be a few week before I get the wireless adapter - $110 OUCH!

It's $99 at future shop. Should be able to find it even cheaper than that, try Walmart.

Wow. That's not bad. But you still have to buy the steering wheel etc on top of that. I initially saw them online for about 300 British Pounds! That's why I thought they were crazy expensive. $99 isn't too bad.

Ooops....That's right...I left my brain in the bathroom this morning after I took a...shower. Better run and get it. lol

I thought something wasn't right about the $99 figure. That's what happens when you read posts waaaaayy to fast.

Thanks for the correction. Guess I'm gonna wait awhile to get the seat and wheel.
