View Full Version : Harmony is back
Looks like a decent attempt at hanging on to tradition. No prices yet.

The first guitar I owned in the 60s was a bit of a Bobkat knockoff - biggest POS in the universe - but I learned to hammer out three cord progression on it's flat necked radius (which means there was no radius, or that it was infinite)
I find it interesting they've stuck to original specs (I think) of 20 frets and a scale length of 24.125".

Well, the "Custom" series looks pretty much just like everything else coming out of china...
And I can't imagine they'll sell many amps over 15w (unless they're tube -- wouldn't that be something!?)...
BUT the Vintage series is super cool! Hope they're affordable.
Wonder if this will take some air out of the vintage-POS market?
(oh, and those gold foils better sound like gold foils!)

I have a '62 Harmony Meteor that my uncle gave to me one Christmas. I absolutely love that guitar. It sounds amazing, and plays like butter.
However, it does have lousy tuners and I'm always afraid I'm going to break it, so a reissue would suite me just fine. When will prices be available?
The old ones are amazing sounding guitars, when they are set up properly. I can only hope these new puppies sound the same and are just as affordable as the old ones were back in the day...If so, I can't bloody wait to get my hands on one!lofu

The original bobcat was a bolt on neck, these are set necks. I wonder if the gold foil pickups are as good as the original D'Armonds?

Just poking around and noticed that Elderly is listing the reissues for sale by June. The prices are discouraging to say the least.
List on a Stratotone h44, single PUP, wood bridge and all - 900 clams!
Ouch.
Think I'll buy 3 Danelectros instead...

my first decent electric was a Harmony Meteor. I loved that thing. Playing rhythm in my first rock band. I'd be really interested to see what the new ones are like. If priced right, I like to get one for old times sake.

Meteor list is $1299!
That's Gretsch Anniversary territory!
Again, I'll say it: Ouch.
With any luck this'll be a link to Elderly's Harmony listings:

*edit: scroll 2/3 of the way down for the reissues.
Harmony could never keep their specs straight and consistent. There are several vastly dfferent Sovereigns ranging from pretty good to complete crapola. I wonder if their new archtop acoustic is any good, say compared to the new Godin for example.
Peace, Mooh.

My first guitar was a Strat copy Harmony. Still have that guitar and will never part with it because of the sentimental value. Plays fine for what I need. Might actually swap out the electronics on it for some decent pickups.
Looking through the ''custom" stuff noticed this one

Nice looking guitar but if the prices people are quoting here are correct, I'll definitely pass.

the harmony stratotone jupiter is bout $900.00 USD. that's about the same as the jerry jones 'originals' guitars, as listed on the elderly website. if the guitar is of decent quality, it's not an unreasonable price and there's potential that the harmony vintage series could be funky guitars.
elderly also carries the danelectro, reverend and eastwood guitars. the harmony guitars are priced at the high end of this spectrum and it's doubtful that elderly would wanna carry them if they were crap. it'll be interesting to see what they're all about. i, for one, love the vibe of the old harmony guitars (gotta love those wood bridges) and will be looking forward to checking them out.
