I was looking around the internet the other day and one of the online music stores is selling a Peavey Windsor tube amp.
I was aware of their head of this name but lo and behold they also offer it in a 20 (instead of 100) watt combo amp.
Does anyone have any experience with this amp?

I was considering the head a while ago but I went with a valve junior instead because I didn't need(or want) the volume required to get saturated tube tone at home.
So has anyone bought or played thru the 20 watt windsor combo amp?
And if so whats it like? No one in my area stocks it so I'd have to buy it sight unseen and unplayed.
Thanks in advance.

It's the elusive Windsor Studio. It looks like an amazing amp. Unfortunately, the ship date on them has been pushed back over and over again. It's a running joke on forums that it doesn't really exist lol. So even if you order it site unseen, it might be awhile till you get it.

When it comes out I definitely will be interested in trying it. It's way more versatile than the head. You can use almost any tube in it.

You could try emailing one of the online dealers to see if they have a ship date for it.

I had the chance to play the half stack Windsor at Class Axe in Kemptville.

Old Marshall Plexi immediately came to mind. That said remember it is a single channel amp.

marshall plexis were clean up to a point though. It could be a fluke, but I have played two windsor heads and both of them lacked any clean headroom at all.
ie. it didn't exist.

anything with humbuckers would drive it into crunch territory right away. Really loud and really cheap though.

The smaller one looks interesting, The "nano" amp that comes in the packs has the same cosmetics too. Whether or not they are similar, it was about 5 watts.

The Windsor Studio seems quite different from the Windsor Head though.

Has anyone actually seen a Windsor Studio "in the flesh"?

Has anyone played one?

The Windsor Studio isn't available yet. Release date continuely pushed back. I'm thinking it will be shipped in the second or third quarter.

If it's like the combo units of the Valvekings though, the heads sound much better. I've played the Windsor head at the local music store a few times and I agree that is does lack headroom, but that being said, I am not sure if that wasn't their intent somewhat. Good sounding amp though.

That probably comes down to the open-backed cabinet, doesn't it?

I imagine you could run a closed-back 1x12 or 2x12 off the combos to get a much tighter bottom end, etc. I don't see a matching extension speaker for the Windsor Studio; that's a bit of a drag.

Feature-wise, the power soak and the direct out on the Windsor Studio seem pretty handy. You'd need external boxes to do that with the Windsor heads, I guess.

Cabinet construction looks like a weak point. I'm guessing pressboard or particle board or whatever you call it. They don't seem to mention plywood anywhere.

I see the Windsor Studio selling on some internet sites like sweetwater.
