I was at the Long&Mcquade the other night playing an SRV sig model (used). The sunburst finish looked pretty nice to me. That being said I am waiting for the new 2008 American Strats to come in with the Charcoal frost finish. Thats about the only color that really appeals to me thats available for the new models.

I love a good sunburst, as long as it isn't bright cherry - ugh.

Having played Robbie Robertson's '58 (maybe off by a year), and many others, sunburst and Strat just seem to go together.

Peace, Mooh.

Sunburst Strats have never appealed to me. I'm more of a solid color kinda guy. Got a Fiesta Red one and a Sea Foam Green one.

I love sunburst strats... other than that, I think I'd only ever consider owning a black or white strat.

Cherryburst is ugly though.

My recent first strat purchase is actually in Olympic White. If it was a Sunburst model instead, I still would have scored it. But I've got to admit - this Jimmie Vaughan Strat in Olympic White with a tinted maple neck looks so hot!

What do you mean by that? You know Robbie Robertson?

Depends on the fingerboard and hardware. I LOVE this sunburst strat...

No, I don't know him, just the guy who currently owns the '58 Strat, and it's a great axe. Didn't mean to mislead anyone.

I like them all. The sunbursts are nice. And provided it's not collectable. A colour change is just a spray gun away. Clear finish on ash, nice.

It depends on the hardware to a degree--I've seen Strats with sunbursts that looked good, and ones that didn't. When I was younger I didn't like sunburst as much because I'd seen too many poorly done sunbursts on cheap Strat copies. But, over time I came to like them--especially owning a Mustang with a sunburst body. (Which in this old picture shows a need for cleaning.)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v31/cflstampman/mustanginneedofcleaning.png
(Yes it's not a Strat--but it shows a nice looking sunburst on a Fender.)

What I don't like on any guitar--but especially ones like Strats with large pickguards--is tortoise shell/fake tortoise shell. I know a lot of people love the look--I think it looks cheap. It wouldn't stop me from buying a guitar if that was it's only fault--but if there was a choice between 2 otherwise fairly equal guitars, one with tortoise shell & one without--I'd pick the one without. If I bought or received one with tortoise shell, I'd be looking for a replacement.

But sunburst Strats? I have no problem with them.

My favorite Strat colour is white, with a rosewood neck! That being said, my second favorite colour for a strat is probably sunburst.

Actually, I'd be more inclined to agree with your first spelling. My Ultimate would be more along the lines of a Super 400, a D'Aquisto or a D'Angelico of some kind.

But t'ain't nothing wrong with a 2 tone burst 50's Strat with a soft Vee neck.

I dont like CHERRY sunburst finishes on Strat type guitars...or any guitar really. I actually think other bursts can look great.

I think the tobacco burst on my Tom Anderson Classic is gorgeous.

I sold my Shoreline Gold Strat last year and am "Strat-less" at the moment. I've got a 3-tone burst Tele and a Desertburst LP so I guess I love the bursts. But on a Strat there are a number of great classic colours to choose from so I may go with something different (I may never leave the house with it but I just love that Shell Pink ).

Ya personally I'm sick of the sunburst. I use to like it but now its like the default colour for everyone. I do like a nice 2-tone 'burst though. Like a nice '56 or earlier. But the 3-tone burst is definatly past its prime

I don't care as long as it plays WELL

Mine is blue.

My next if I ever get any spare cash will be white or Seafoam because that's the colour the Jeff Beck model comes in and I like those.

I used to prefer opaque finishes on Strats , but more recently admire burst type finishes....particularly the classic 50's 2 tone ash.

I find that sunburst on a Strat is my favorite colour.
Especially with a maple fret board.

Yeah, a three-tone sunburst is the best looking finish for a Strat (or a Tele) in my humble opinion (if the guitar has a black pickguard, that is).

I gotta say, if I was to get a Strat I'd get a sunburst one. This one's cool

Though, of course, I'd pick up a $200 copy for hot rodding...

When I visualize a true vintage electric guitar I see in my minds eye a 57 Tobacco Burst Stratocaster with a maple neck and fingerboard with a white pickguard with a hardtail bridge. That to me is the guitar I Love. Yes I own a hybrid I made myself from genuine Fender parts with Texas Special Pickups. I'll forward a pic later.

I dont usually care for burst finishes on strats...seem to suit LP's much more. And Tobacco burst (in spite of owning a vintage Ibanez with one) is my least favorite finish of all time :(

I love these useless threads !!!>....... ;)

having played Pete's 56, I couldn't imagine a better strat ever......and I thought mine was "it" ,........... it just looks perfect in the 2 tone..

bursts bring out the wood, that's why I like them so much.

here's my (2nd place to Pete's in tone) guitar clinic custom transition s.
