I've got a sudden severe attack of GAS. I just called L&M to order one of the new American Series Telecasters (Crimson Transparent) And now I just called the wife and told her I wouldn't be home after work because I'm stopping off at the music store. My plan is to scout out a matching Strat. Thinking the Charcoal frost metallic. Ahh what do I do? How do I control these bouts of GAS? Do I control them?

Take a deep breath. Now exhale.
OK. Do you want one guitar or two? I'm confused.
I know what I'd do in your place. Get one guitar and hold off on any more purchases until you've become acquainted with what you just scored... try and see if it's really want you want first, though. One thing I try not to do is rush into buying guitars. I get GAS, all right, but it sucks to splurge on something only to realize shortly thereafter that it wasn't what you thought you wanted after all.
Or, if you are aching to burn a hole in your wallet, go postal and buy three or four guitars at once. At least it'll make your life real interesting in a big hurry.

Diamonds my friend, diamonds. Your G.A.S. attacks, though not likely totally forgiven, will have tolerable repercussions.

I have to agree--go and play both--and don't just spend a few seconds--spend several minutes with each--as long as you can...
Then try to talk yourself out of each one.
This process should weed out which one is better to get--and may turn you on to a different guitar completely. Or none at all.

This thread is ludicrous.....of course you should buy them both...and extra strings...and 2 new cases....and, of course 2 new GC guitar straps......a new cord for each.....and 2 new guitar stands.....maybe a new amp....we all need to help stimulate the economy, its our duty to our fellow canadians and has absolutely nothing to do with gas....
Michelle like the colour...did you order it yet...
cheers

Save up and order a real high end piece like a Suhr or Tyler or Tom Anderson.
If you but TRULY great guitars GAS doesn happen all that often. After using boutique stuff I find Fenders etc rather unappealing....and GAS is a th ing of the past.
Soo... what did you end up getting? Both? (If so... where are the pictures??? I don't think I've seen either colour before - or I have and just don't remember)

I have to work out of town a lot, so to "reward" myself for the travel I go to a music store where I am working and buy a guitar. Saves bringing one with me.

I will cut and paste this and email it to my wife to start the justification process. After I've made the purchase of course. My #1 policy is begging for forgiveness rather than permission.

I actually tried the newer teles and was not really impressed. My current tele is better and I'll be sticking with that. But I will, however, be purchasing a new strat as I don't have one. As well a Les paul is in the future but for now just the strat and a new amp. I'm thinking something along the lines of a Vox but not sure which one yet.

I'm a little late here, but curious-what did your wife say when you phoned her? Did she say the rest of your gear would be out on the lawn waiting for you when you got home, or was she cool with it? I have been lucky, most of the good new gear I have gotten in the last ten years (a G&L Tribute on my 40th and Yamaha SA500 on my 50th birthday) has been stuff my dear wife knew I wanted and went looking to find for me or got my friends chipping in for (my Traynor YCV50BLUE). I just asked because a lot of the time our spouses don't understand our gear lust as much as they understand their need for jewels and I hope it worked out for you! LOL!

I'm taking bets on whether I get the boot because of music gear or golf gear as I spend thousands on each. Hopefully golf gear as chances are I'll find myself out on the street in the summer time.

Ooh... a Vox AC30 (or AC15 would be nice). :food-smiley-004:
I was going to make a comment about how nice it was to be single, but realized that I didn't have money to spend so the point was moot anyhow.

Yes the Vox AC30 is on the short list.

Awesome. I live in Waterloo... can I come play it when you get it? (kidding!)

"Explaining to the wife" is the real reason Fender started the "Relic Line" of guitars.
"Oh this old thing.... I had it forever. It's so beat up it has no resale value..."
