Hey all,
So I'm a newb, and I'm looking to buy an electric guitar in the $150-$200 range. I listen to a lot of hard rock / metal, things like Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Motley Crue, and Metallica, so that's what I'll be hoping to play.
Can anyone suggest what make/model guitar I should be looking for? I was renting a Fender Squires back in Victoria and it was ok (there was a lot of buzz on it though... might just be because it's a cheap guitar).
Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys.
Mike

For that price range you may have to wait for a sale or get one used.
There are some Epiphone SG's that are lower priced, but I've never tried those. The mid & higher priced ones seem good though--and it would look similar to Angus.
I did see one of the "baby" Iceman models for under $200--it was like an Iceman, but slightly smaller body & the shape wasn't as pointy--they still look cool and it felt great.
You may get a guitar you love in that price range--and I hope you do, but it's also very probable if you buy in that range you'll upgrade if you keep it up. But that's okay too--if you keep playing.
I would advise patience though in buying a guitar so you don't buy a piece of junk that will turn you off.

Try looking here (www.hammguitars.com) I just got an SS4 for my first electric and as far as my experience with guitars goes its a great guitar for the money. Some of the pictures don't work but if you email Andy (or pm him hes a member here) I'm sure he'll send you some.

I think something in the range of pointy guitars
is something to consider as well. Research some
of the guitars that your favorite bands play.
There are many low end copies out there.
Good luck on your search.

for that money I think used is your best bet...you`ll get more guitar than you would buying a new one for $150...$200.oo. You should take your time, play many and by the time you find one you want you may have a bit more to spend, not saying a beginner needs a custom shop, but a quality guitar may make you wanna play it more, so you don`t have to settle for a POS either.

I agree that going used definitely gives you the best bang for your buck. Keep an eye on the usual sites like www.usedtoronto.com or toronto.kijiji.ca/ for some good deals.
If you were interested in a new guitar , the AXL Badwater series ($200US) is getting some great reviews. I'm not sure about their availability in Canada- they are a relatively new line. The craftsmanship might not be the greatest but their EMG pickups are excellent value and they look pretty cool. Might be worth looking into: http://www.axlguitars.com/index.php?id=1921

You may find a better deal if you order online...La Music which is a canadian site has some low price BC Rich and Epiphone guitars...free shipping on orders of $199 and up.
These are just suggestions in the price range of $350 and under...if you want to know the quality of the guitar try using google and search for name of guitar plus add the word review in with the search and see what people are saying about the guitar.

I recorded these songs with the Les paul 100...click on veiw these tracks button in green to the left of page then click play.

La Music takes credit cards and Paypal and maybe other forms as payment as well however im not sure.
Les paul 100 is my pick if your buying a cheaper guitar.
Also when looking as guitars you may have a choice of color in grey box area to the right.

Of course!
And the Ibanez I was thinking of is the ADX-120--I'm not sure if they make them anymore--but I've seen them for $200 or less.
Of course you need to consider some of the accessories--does your price include them or not?
