re-stringing?

Can anyone give me a good link to a site that has info on re-stringing guitars with a trem bridge? ill be re-stringing my new strat for the first time tonight :)

Do i pass the string through the hole first, and then wrap it around 3 times, or do i wrap it around 3 times THEN pass it through the hole

Through the hole then wrap once over the hole/string and then once or more under the hole/string. The larger strings you might only get one wrap under the hole, but the light strings you can 2 or more. I might wrap my high E 3-4 times under the hole/string to stop it from slipping.

My personal preference is D'Addario 11s on all my electrics. As for long lasting, it really depends on your body composition. My sweat is pretty tame so strings last a decent long time for me. I know others that can kill a set in a day.

yay i went out and got new strings and changed em...they sound so nice! i got elixers (0.010)

And remember, especially on floating trems, change one string at a time............

ya, i sorta didnt do that lol, so it took me a long time to re-string n tune it, but i got it tuned now.
ill remember ur advice in the future tho :)

if you want to make the job easier get locking tuners, they dont require any wraps around the post. You just put the string in the hole and pull tight then clamp it there....shallers are good as well as spertzels.

As for strings the elixirs tend to break easy on my strat...d'darios or ghs seem best to me.

Stringing your guitar is an easy and essential part of playing guitar. IF you google "how to string a guitar" IM sure you will find many ways to string your guitar. Ultimateguitar.com has a section under lessons on how to do it for any type of guitar. Guitar world also had an excellent guide a few months ago so I will gaze over that and get back to you before tongiht

I agree... you really need to learn how to string up a guitar.

Don't forget to stretch the strings out too.

Heres what I do.........stick the string through the hole in the tuner post after you've decided how much you want to wrap around. Now make a backwards
"Z" bending the string at each side of the post. Now put the end of the string under and then over the length of string coming off of the nut. Its tied on and just wrap as many as you can to strengthen the tie. Works for me

Hey I didn't know that about locking tuners. That's definitely the way to go.

I have a guitar with Schaller locking tuners and one disappointement is that they sure it keep the strings from slipping, but after multiple detuning and tunings sometimes the strings break at the tuning post. A problem I never had before with regular tuners.
I guess everything has its downside
