Hey everyone. I just came across this forum today and it looks pretty cool so I thought I'd join up...

I'm new to playing the guitar, having started playing the acoustic guitar about a year ago. I've had a couple of cheap guitars over the years to mess around with but never really got serious about learning how to play until recently. Over the last year I've really gotten into it and have been enjoying it a lot. I don't have the ambition to be any kind of professional or anything. I already have a day job and a career, so playing the guitar is really just for my own enjoyment and satisfaction. That being said, I really like it so I hope to get better at it.

At the moment I play a Simon and Patrick acoustic which sounds nice to me and seems to play well enough. I don't plan on replacing it any time soon as I have become quite emotionally attached to it.

However, I am thinking about going electric, as I like rock and blues and would love to play that style of music. I've started researching new guitars and I'm currently obsessed with price-shopping for an Epiphone Les Paul Custom, as well as various little practice amps. The only thing holding me back is that I don't think I'm really good enough to make the leap yet, and I figure I should keep working on the acoustic until I think I "deserve" a new guitar. But that thinking changes day-to-day.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to learning a lot in the forum and hopefully in time being able to contribute something back.

Oh, and in case you didn't figure it out from the title of the thread, I play left handed. An especially big hello to all the other left-handed players out there.

Welcome fellow lefty... sdsre

In your search for a good lefty electric, take a test drive with a Godin Exit22. You won't regret it. (around $500)

I second that about the Exit 22. Keep an eye out of them on Craigslist Toronto... I've seen at least three separate ones in the past year or so. In fact, I got my maple fretboard one last year and it was, if memory serves, three and change... came in a hard case too and it was in excellent shape.

BTW, welcome aboard, Duster, from Max in Leslieville!

Hi Duster, I'm not left handed but I also have a Simon & Patrick acoustic. They're great "bang for the buck" guitars. There are a lot of nice and helpful people here. Hope you enjoy the forum.

Hey Duster,

I agree with the Godin Exit 22. Solid guitar, versatile, made in Can/US. One of my main gigging guitars.:food-smiley-004:

Thanks for all the advice guys. I have already taken the leap and ended up with a gold top Hagstrom Swede. I checked out the Exit 22, and it is certainly a nice guitar. In fact, it was a contender (I'm definitely a fan of Godin!), but in the end I couldn't resist the draw of the shiny gold top. I'm a simple man.

Now I just have to learn to play it! So far it's been a ton of fun making all kinds of ridiculous noise. It's amazing how good I can sound just by turning up the distortion! :)

welcome, from another lefty.

Good choice on the Hagstrom. How about posting a pic on our "Lefty" thread?
